The summer sun is fading fast, but it's not too late to get outside and soak it up! Let Cleveland Metroparks help you take advantage of the waning days with these end-of-summer outdoor recreation programs and events.

 

Early Morning Pontoon Float

Saturday, August 3 

Session 1 * 7:30 - 8:30 a.m.

Session 2 * 9 - 10 a.m.

Hinckley Lake Boathouse · Hinckley Reservation

Join Naturalist Sharon Hosko for an early morning view of Hinckley Lake from the comfort of the Floating Water Lab. This program is for ages 10 years and older with adult. Registration and $5/person fee are required. Hinckley Lake Boathouse is located off West Drive in Hinckley Reservation, between Bellus and State roads in Hinckley Township. Summer Beach Party

Saturday, August 3 * 5 - 11 p.m.

Huntington Beach * Huntington Reservation

Enjoy beach games, activities, music and a live sand castle demonstration from national award-winning sand sculptor Carl Jara all at the Summer Beach Party. From 5 - 8 p.m., families can enjoy a variety of beach activities, including face painting, live animals and more. Then get comfortable around the campfire for s'mores before enjoying the movie "Top Gun." Huntington Beach is located off Lake Road in Huntington Reservation, between Crocker-Bassett and Columbia roads in Bay Village - north of the I-90/Columbia Road exit. Wilderness Skills Series

Wednesday, August 7 * 6 - 8 p.m.

Meet once a month to learn a variety of skills that will allow you to walk with wisdom and confidence in the woods. Learn fire making skills with Naturalist Kathy Schmidt and Wilderness Skills Instructor Derek Ham in this adults only outdoor awareness, survival and primitive skills class. Sprouts! Pre-K Program Series

Give your youngster a head start in appreciating nature during this eight week series of happy and healthy outdoor learning experiences. Snack and craft are included. This series is for children ages 4 to 5 years. Participants must be toilet trained. Registration and $80 fee are required by August 7. Dive-In Movie II: Bedtime Stories

Come listen to Skeeter and his magical bedtime stories at Ledge Pool! Visitors can bring blankets or chairs to sit on the lawn and enjoy the movie "Bedtime Stories." Doors open at 8 p.m. with the movie beginning at 8:45 p.m. Ledge Pool & Recreation Area is located at 1151 Ledge Road, between State and Kellogg roads in Hinckley Reservation in Hinckley Township. Dog Paddle & Pet-A-Palooza

Sunday, August 25 * 1 - 5 p.m.

This summer why not treat your favorite pooch to a refreshing swim at an all-dog pool party? For a nominal donation ($5 per dog), you can bring your nonaggressive dog for a dip in Ledge Pool, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Medina County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). A mini dog fair with exhibitors and vendors will also be on grounds.
