Remember the Rocky River Watershed Council this Holiday Season

The Rocky River Watershed Council is extremely grateful the continued support of our members, donors, partners and volunteers.  With your help, we were able to accomplish the following for the Rocky River in 2013:

  • Completed a project to restore fish passage and aquatic habitat in lower Baldwin Creek in Berea through the removal of three obsolete dams,
  • Reduced erosion, enhanced aquatic habitat and increased flood storage in Healey Creek in Brunswick by creating nearly 1000 feet of new floodplain,
  • Reduced the amount of sediment washing off of farm fields into Mallet Creek and Plum Creek by over 2000 tons through the installation of cover crops, grassed waterways and conservation tillage practices,
  • Tested water quality at 36 sites throughout the watershed, and
  • Engaged over 250 volunteers to plant trees along streams and clean trash from the Rocky River and its tributaries.

By supporting the Rocky River Watershed Council with a tax-deductible contribution, you will allow us to maintain and expand our efforts in the new year!  Planning is already underway on these exciting 2014 initiatives:

  • Removal of the fourth dam on Baldwin Creek,
  • Continued implementation of the “Stopping Sediment at its Source” project in Mallet Creek and Plum Creek,
  • Streambank stabilization and floodplain recovery in Baldwin Creek,
  • Expanded outreach about stream-safe greenspace management to residents, communities and other land managers, and
  • Increased opportunities to get involved through tree plantings, stream cleanups, and community events.

Plus, we’ll be establishing new Stream Teams throughout the watershed as a way for community stakeholders to be involved and to improve their subwatershed.  Look for news about a Stream Team forming near you in early 2014!

As you can see, we are going to be very busy in 2014 – but we can’t do it alone!  Please consider supporting the Rocky River Watershed Council with a tax-deductible donation, by becoming a member and by volunteering your time.  Simply click on the “Donate” or “Membership” tabs at the top of this page.

Donations may also be made by check or through appreciated securities, sent to the Rocky River Watershed Council, Attention: Jared Bartley, 6100 West Canal Rd., Valley View, OH 44125.

And, as always, we greatly appreciate the support of those who have remembered the Rocky River Watershed Council in their estate plans.

Thank you again, and We Wish You and Your Family Very Safe and Happy Holidays!!!
