Learn how to harvest rainwater for all your garden needs and to combat storm water pollution in your community by constructing a rain barrel! The City of Middleburg Heights, Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District and the Rocky River Watershed Council will host rain barrel workshops for residents on Monday, April 11 and Monday, April 25, 2011, beginning at 6:30 PM at the Middleburg Heights Community Center, 16000 Bagley Rd. Each participant will construct a rain barrel to take home. The $60 fee includes instruction and all materials, including a 55-gallon barrel and a downspout diverter. Registration is required.
A rain barrel is a container used to collect and store rainwater that would otherwise be lost to runoff and likely diverted to a storm drain. Collected water may then be used to water lawns and gardens.
Additionally, Middleburg Heights residents participating in the Headwater Streets: Abram Creek program are eligible for a 50% rebate on rain barrels.
